Breathing Life into Siblyback Estate

Tucked away in Cornwall, Siblyback Estate is undergoing a pretty incredible transformation, thanks to the work of CampWild partners, Oxygen Conservation. Set in one of the UK’s rare Atlantic rainforest zones, the estate has the perfect rainy, mild climate for temperate rainforests to thrive—and that’s exactly what’s happening here. The team is hard at work bringing these forests back to life, giving nature a helping hand in reclaiming a landscape that’s been under pressure from years of grazing.

Siblyback is home to over 500 acres of land, much of it used for grazing, but there’s a hidden gem within the estate—a small pocket of broadleaf woodland. This patch of trees is the starting point for something bigger. Oxygen Conservation is working to extend this woodland, creating regenerating wooded corridors and linking up ecosystems. With the estate’s natural ringfence, they’re protecting these areas from grazing, making space for nature to thrive. "Our vision is to restore a vast tract of one of the UK’s rarest and most precious habitats; temperate rainforest."

It’s not just the woods getting the attention here—Siblyback’s ponds are set to become wildlife havens too. With careful management, they’ll support everything from amphibians to birds and insects, contributing to the estate’s growing biodiversity. The team is also protecting the land’s natural habitats, ensuring that Siblyback becomes a thriving ecosystem once again.

And this isn’t just about restoring nature; it’s about reconnecting you with it! That is where Wild Spaces step in: Egor Ros and Sentinel Peak are the newest edition to the CampWild Network. These Wild Spaces offer visitors a chance to experience thdse ladnscapes in a turly adventurous and immersive way. Egor Ros is all about open moorland, rolling hills, and towering tors, Sentinel Peak, perched high above the estate, gives you unbeatable views over Siblyback Lake and the medieval village below. These spaces are the perfect way to witness the revival of Siblyback firsthand and explore a truly remoter and beautiful area of the UK.

"Our goal is to foster a profound and lasting connection between people and nature, ensuring that Siblyback remains a beacon of conservation and inspiration for generations to come."

As Siblyback Estate grows into a thriving hub of conservation and adventure, it’s clear that the work being done here is about more than just restoring landscapes. It’s about creating a space where people can reconnect with nature and play a part in its recovery—an important step in making sure these wild spaces are around for future generations to explore and enjoy.
