Springwater Farm: Regeneratively Farming Hairy Cows & Wooly Pigs in Harmony with Nature

Back in 2023 we were lucky enough to connect with the wonderful Amelia and her growing family (now a little bigger with their newest edition!) who have taken up residence at National Trusts, Killerton House and are making their mark in the world of sustainable farming. We are blown away with the work that they are doing and are on a mission to help our community to understand this. The farm is a shining example of how nature, farming and recreation can work together and we are over the moon to have such a beautiful Wild Space for our community to explore at heart of it all.

Regeneration at the Heart of Farming 🌿

Run by Amelia and Jason, Springwater Farm is a prime example of farming that works in balance with nature. After transitioning from a conventional lifestyle to one rooted in the land, they have dedicated themselves to regenerative farming. Their Highland cattle & pigs play a key role in revitalising the soil and supporting biodiversity throughout the farm.

What enhances this work is the farm’s connection to the Killerton Estate, managed by the National Trust. The estate has a long-standing commitment to protecting and nurturing the environment, with initiatives such as bat monitoring and dormouse conservation. This shared dedication to the environment makes Springwater Farm and Killerton Estate natural partners in fostering a healthier, more vibrant ecosystem.

History, Community, and Adventure

Springwater Farm isn’t just about farming; it’s part of a landscape that has a deep connection to the surrounding area. The Killerton Estate, with its historic grounds and ongoing conservation projects, provides a rich backdrop for the farm’s activities. As you camp at The Orchard, you’re not just enjoying nature—you’re also part of a place that has been carefully preserved and nurtured over the years.

The Orchard itself is a living example of nature’s ability to regenerate. Once dormant, it has now come alive with wildlife, from birds to insects. The hedgerows around The Orchard are teeming with activity, making it a perfect spot for members to connect with the land and appreciate its natural beauty. For more about the history and conservation work at Killerton Estate, visit the National Trust’s Killerton Estate page or for upcoming community events in which you can get involved click here.

Explore The Orchard

The Orchard at Springwater Farm offers a chance to truly connect with the outdoors. This space, nestled next to the wetlands of the Culm floodplain, is ideal for those who want to experience the natural world up close. The wetlands, maintained through the efforts of the National Trust, are home to a variety of wildlife, providing a rich environment for exploration.

With easy access, a compost loo and parking right at the orchard, this space is perfect for members looking for a simple yet meaningful way to camp under the stars. The Orchard is especially great for families, offering a safe and engaging environment where children can roam in the enclosed orchard and discover the grounds of Killerton.

A Partnership Rooted in Nature

The collaboration between CampWild and Springwater Farm is about more than just offering a camping spot—it’s about supporting a shared commitment to conservation and sustainable living. By choosing to camp at The Orchard, members are contributing to the ongoing efforts to protect and enhance this special part of Devon.

Our partnership with Springwater Farm, along with the involvement of the National Trust’s Killerton Estate, reflects a dedication to creating spaces where people can reconnect with nature and play a role in its preservation. Every visit to The Orchard helps support a greener future, where the land is respected and cared for.
